What are Nematodes? |
Mission of the Nematology Department The department consists of seven faculty members with programs of research, teaching, and outreach in areas including soil ecology, behavior, biological control, genetics, molecular biology, host-parasite interactions, pest management, systematics, and evolution. Our faculty members collaborate with colleagues in many campus departments, and provide a wealth of opportunities for training undergraduates, graduate students, and visiting scientists. Our Agricultural Experiment Station mission is reflected in our applications of knowledge in fundamental nematode biology to develop strategies for control of plant- and animal-parasitic nematodes. These research-based strategies are required to reduce the impact of nematodes on California's agricultural production, and to foster safer pest control that promotes sustainable agricultural practices. |
